The NBA Really Doesn’t Care

April 7, 2009

Contrary to what the first annual league “green week” and NOE’s future employer (not a sell-out firm, believe it or not) want you to think, its quite clear that the NBA doesn’t care about the environment.  The efforts during this special week aren’t raising money, but awareness by dressing their multi-multi-millionaire players in green (recycled or fair-trade jerseys maybe? no, just green ones made in the same Asian sweatshops) and put them on TV ads reminding you to recycle.

The NBA’s “environmental awareness” (“promote recycling in your community!”) seems to be ripped straight from an early-80s high school environmental club flyer. I guess their retro thinking on the environment might complement the “throw-back” jerseys that teams often wear.

Thanks for honoring the tradition of announcing I have a new job by insulting my employer. The fact that you managed to insult both the organization and the firm that is paying me to work for the organization is particularly impressive.

Still, I think you’re giving the NBA too little credit. Their players have come a long way from the days that Karl Malone was doing PSAs about recycling.
